Marketing with user generated contend

A light read to start with.....
The term user generated contend refers to online contend created by consumers – blogs, service reviews written by users, user generated videos , applications for photosharing, Wiki’s, social and business networking sites like MySpace.com and Linked In, virtual worlds like second life and the like. These vehicle account for about 1/3 of the time spend on the 100 most visited US websites up from roughly 2% in 2005.

Some key channels of usage
Public relation ship – Leverage consumers, user-generated media to deliver message, monitor it for consumer sentiments.
Advertising – Leverage consumers, user generated contend in creation and dissemination of advertising. Eg Nike commercial in Japan
Product development – Capitalize on feedback from online users to drive product development and innovation
Customer service – Engage consumers using their expertise to answer questions and resolve service issues.
